Try looking at the Fender Precision Bass

Since you seem to like the Fender jazz so much, the P bass would be a logical step.

Similar body and playing style, but the sound is different.

Music Man Stingrays can have 5 strings but five strings are really useless to me. You might as well get a 6 string if the low b is just for extended range. But Stingrays have a lot of punch and are good for funk if that's what your into.

There's plenty of punch in a Jazz bass ( I have two). Back the neck pickup off and that will boost the mid frequencies.

5 stringged isnt needed unless you are a big time music producer or record labeled musician. a jazz is good for blues stuff not really ment for green day stuff and blink stuff but it could be used for that try looking at musicansfriend.com find what you may like and check guitar centers and local music stores to play them--- All guitars and basses are diffrent so play it a couple times before you by it

Well, 5 string is needed if you want to play anything lower than an E. (other than to tune down) I'd agree if you had no intention in playing anything other than pop rock and have no intentions on making creative compositions, but i think your better than that. My bassist has a six-string ibanez BTB.

If i were to get a new 5 or 6 string and money was no issue, i'd say a warwick, neckthrough.
Otherwise Earnie Ball makes some nice 5 strings for a decent price, but you still have to pay for quality.

If you want punch just make sure it's active and has good tone control.
