How would you play the guitar chord Cadd9 on the piano?

Im learning "Set the Fire to the Third Bar" by Snow Patrol on the Piano using just the guitar chords, but im having difficulty with this one.
Can anyone explain to me how i would play it on piano?

  • Piano Kat:

Play C in your left hand and E, G and D in the right (with the D on top).

    "add9" is different than "9".

Cadd9 means you play a C chord, but you add the ninth on top (the note D). The same pitches as a Cadd2, except that the notes HAVE TO BE on top.

C9 means that it’s a C dominant chord with the 9th on top. C dominant means it’s C7 (the minor seventh and major third) with the 9th (D) on top.

Try the book at http://www.stringtheorychords.com, it provides all of the chords for guitar and piano.
