Chaos Guitar Technique (let your own style come through)
Visit www.ultimateblackbeltguitar.com to learn more. I’m always looking for new ways of expressing myself so I created the Chaos Technique. It’s basically permission to go off and terrorize your guitar, toss out the rules, and set your mind free as much as you want. Some may think you can just playing anything and yes, you can…but, I choose to mix the ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ notes together in order to walk the thin line between beauty and destruction. Enjoy. Please submit your own as well, I can’t wait to hear what you come up with.

Now Shinichi has transformed this track into a stunning guitar-led fusion of twisted beats with a driving bassline with the vocal sounding more haunting than ever before! With early support already coming in from the likes of Radio 1s Pete Tong and Galaxy FMs Andi Durrant & David Dunne we can definitely see this one being played from the dark underground clubs to the peak time terraces worldwide. Re-Amp & Loop w/ the Line 6 POD HD 300 HD300 Demo Review 400 500 HD400 HD500 Line6
Folks, As most of you know, the L6 POD HD 300 is new in my line-up … and I’ve been playing around w/ lots of the features. Something I have really been digging is the Looper function … and a very specific feature within the looper, which allows the looper to go ‘PRE’ or ‘POST. In PRE mode, your guitar signal is recorded unprocessed, at which point you can re-amp into any of the amp models. VERY cool if you laid down your lick, but are looking for a specific tone. In POST mode, it allows you to choose 1 tone (eg, your Rhythm), and a 2nd tone to overlap (eg, your Lead). I see use cases for both features, and most importantly … you can choose either mode ‘AFTER’ you record your lick, all at the push of 1 button! KILLER feature (IMO) … something I haven’t seen on any other looper. Enjoy the video & ROCK ON, signed, TTK.

Learning to play a music instrument such as a guitar can be a wonderful experience. The learning process can provide hours of fun and personal enjoyment and at the same time allow you to play your favorite tune. If you love playing guitar and are looking to buy the instrument, here are some essential tips that you can use to make the right choice.
Tip number 1 is to determine whether you want to play an acoustic guitar or an electric one. There are huge differences between the two kinds of guitars and your decision should be based on the type of music you want to play. If you are more interested in rock music, the best type of guitar for you would be an electric one. However, if you are interested in folk music or classical music, then an acoustic guitar would be the best choice for you.
Acoustic guitars are more suitable for beginners and they are less expensive as well. Moreover, these are portable and can be carried and played anywhere.
Tip number two is to determine whether you are looking for a new guitar or a used one. This will basically determine on the budget you have. If you have a low budget, you may consider buying a used guitar as this will help you save money. On the other hand, buying a new music instrument guarantees that you are the first person who is going to use it and that the instrument will work well. Although new ones are more expensive, they have more advantages than buying a used guitar.
If you have limited budget and your only option is to buy a used one, make sure that you inspect the instrument properly. There are many stores which also give warranty on used items and you can check these stores out to see if you find something suitable for you.
Tip number 3 is to determine the brand and the model of the music instrument. With so many brands and models available today, it can be quite difficult to make a choice. but, you must always make sure that you are buying a guitar that comes from a reputable company. Always research about the different manufacturers first and find out as much information as possible about them before making a purchase.
Lastly, tip number 4 is to try the instrument before buying it. The quality of the product can always be determined by its feel and performance. Make user that you are comfortable playing the music instrument and that it can be handled properly.

Boiling Guitar Strings…Have You Tried String Soup Lately?
Have you ever heard of boiling your guitar strings? I can remember the first time a bass player came up to me and said, “I boiled my strings today.” I would have paid good money to see the expression on my face when that was said. Since that time, I heard from countless players, particularly bass players, who boil their strings. Is it fair to say that many players are actually aspiring to be chefs? Or, maybe they are just really hungry and feel the need to cook up a batch of round wound soup!
The practice of boiling strings is not a new concept to players who live on a budget and need to spark new life into their strings. At first this might seem silly. Why not just go out and buy a new set? If you are a bass player who owns a couple of five string basses, then you know that four or five sets of strings will cost a Hamilton or two out of your wallet. If your tone preference is towards the bright and crispy clean end of the spectrum, it will take some string maintenance to keep it there. This is particularly true if you frequently are bringing on the funk with a full blown slap-a-thon every time you play. The list price on a package of premium cryogenic bass strings has some bass players thinking about how they can save money and yet, keep their tone. One answer has been boiling the strings. Does it actually work? Let’s journey into the subject a bit.
The Good, The Bad, and The Boiled
What happens when you place strings into a pot of boiling water? In short, here is a list of some positive things that can happen to the string:
1. If there is oil build-up on the strings, the higher temperature of water will change the viscous of oil. The oil will start to break-up and flow away from the string into the rest of the water.
2. If there salt from your previous sweaty playing on the strings, then the salt will dissolve and become aqueous with the boiling water.
3. If there is any dirt in between windings, there is an opportunity for it to break-up and possibly dissolve.
4. Micro metal shavings from normal fret wear will expand due to high temp and possibly dislodge themselves from windings.
5. Expansion. Overall the high temperature of the water will cause the strings to expand at molecular level. Every metal has a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) associated with it. This means the metal expands, or contracts with regards to temperature. In the case of wound strings, the windings will expand as they are made of metal. Anything caught in between the windings will get an opportunity to get squeezed out as the windings expand in the high temperature water.
Of course, there are some down sides to boiling. Here is a list of some bad things that can happen when you boil the strings:
1. Higher temperatures are often used to stress relieve any stresses built up in metal. If the string is exposed to high temperature, there will be changes with in the various stress sites of the string. This will have an effect on tuning and possibly create “dead spots” in the string that deaden the sound.
2. Calcium and mineral deposits from hard tap water can work their way into the inner core of a wound string. To get the best results, use de-ionized water if you are going to boil.
3. Brittle strings. Some strings have been known to become more brittle after boiling them. The process of taking the string to a higher temp (212°F) may have an effect on the string’s elasticity if the alloy quality was marginal to begin with it all.
4. Dirty pan. Obviously you don’t want to use a pan with left over spaghetti sauce still in it. You will end up with string marinara, and your fellow musicians will start calling you meatball. The real issue here is the question of a clean pan still having soap scum and mineral deposits in it. If you use such a pan, the soap and mineral deposits will end up on the strings. As a precaution, using a little bit of alcohol and a paper towel to wipe out the pan would help matters.
Conclusion
There are some merits to boiling strings as well as pitfalls. If you are on a shoestring budget and do not wish to shell out the bucks for new strings on a frequent basis, then boiling might be your calling. Hopefully, we have given you a good number of pros and cons to make the right decision that best fits your needs.

Elixir Acoustic Guitar Strings: The Basics of String Theory
Hi, I’m Josh. I’m a local guitarist who’s been in the California bar circuit for nearly a decade now. When I’m not playing session guitars for my buddies in the industry, I provide them with quality guitar servicing as a luthier and parts dealer in downtown Los Angeles.
Today I’m here to talk about strings—Elixir strings, to be exact. Have you guys ever heard of this string brand? It’s something of an industry secret, and I use it specifically for my instruments.
Why do I use them? Simple: because most new guitarists pay little attention to the strings they use for acoustic and classical guitars. The same goes for intermediate guitarists: when they ask me or one of my buddies to jam with them, you can tell that they’re skilled, but lacking in the tech department. Specifically speaking, these guys use low-quality strings that sound dead. Nothing ruins a good jam session more than dead strings that are permanently out of tune and pitch.
It is called the string theory, a secret shared by professional guitarist like me. These pros test all kinds of strings with guitar techs just to come up with perfect strings for their instruments. Amateur guitarists think that a string is just a string. If they haven’t seen it on the Internet or somewhere else, they would not even bother to check their strings.
To help you understand more about Elixir strings, I’m going to tell you about the technical aspects of how Elixir changed my guitar and the way I played with it. In that way, you will be more particular with the strings you use too.
Tension
First of all, let’s start talking about tension. Not a lot of people put enough emphasis on this factor when they string their guitars, and theoretically, for a beginner, it shouldn’t matter. But let’s take the example of a little kid who started playing guitar at the age of twelve.
The common thing most parents would do when they have a kid who’s learning how to use a guitar is to just buy them any old cheap thing they find on the street. The kid’s just learning, right? Who would notice the guitar’s quality?
That can be a pretty big mistake. Some of these low-quality acoustic guitars use steel strings that are so tense that the kid, who hasn’t developed finger calluses and dexterity for protection, will have an extremely difficult time learning. It might even dampen his enthusiasm for the instrument.
Elixir acoustic guitar strings aren’t as soft as Steve Vai’s strings—but then again, what is?—, but they’re comfortable on the fingers. Too little string tension isn’t good for your guitar since you can’t get a decent tone out of a slack string, but too much can make it hard to play the guitar. It may even wreck your guitar’s neck.
String Gauge
Aside from the material your strings are made of, the thickness of the string also affects the way you play, and the way you sound.
Most classical and acoustic guitarists go with a standard string gauge of .012 at the thinnest string. That’s a given standard, and it usually has a clear, mellow sound that’s a little bit tinnish at the end. The thinner you go, the wispier the sound is going to be. It’s good for maneuvering through the fret board, though, so ultimately it’s your choice. Unless your guitar has a decent soundhole and is made of good wood for reverberations, though, don’t go for thinner string gauges.
Thick string gauges, like the Elixir acoustic guitar string’s resonator—.016 at the high E—are extremely difficult to handle for amateur guitarists, but the sound, as the name implies, is sweet, rich and milky. If you know how to work around your strings and adjust your picking style to the thickness of the string gauge, the Elixir resonator is perfect, bar none.
Steel and Nylon
Now, since we’re talking about acoustic strings here, it’s a rather odd twist talking about the differences between steel and nylon strings. But the most basic difference, aside from the fact that nylon and acoustic guitars are two completely different animals, again lies in the sound.
Simply put, if you’re after a more aggressive sound that focuses on attitude and power, a steel-stringed guitar is what you need to get for yourself. Take a hint from guitar greats like Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers: nothing plays the blues better than a decent steel-stringer.
If you have soft fingers, or if you’re more interested in a lighter, more classical sound, a nylon classical guitar is what you need. Jazz greats like Chet Atkins and Paco de Lucia, and even the Gyspsy Kings all use nylon-stringed guitars.
Don’t take the strings you use for your guitars lightly. If you can spend time looking for decent string brands like the Elixir acoustic guitar strings, do so. Sometimes, adjusting the elements of what you play can greatly affect the way your guitar playing sounds, and to a musician, even the smallest improvement in tone is a big deal.
When you want to have good strings for your instruments, visit Elixir Strings site.

A select quantity of exceptional guitars, effects pedals, amplifiers and accessories are presented, enabling the beginner or advanced individual an excellent choice of units at reasonable prices.
In addition a complete series of hands-on “secrets” are provided to help to understand how guitars function with respect to operation, modifications and maintenance.
The “secrets” start with player action details of string bending and proceed to vibrato control, both techniques essential to successful playing. Further details are shown with respect to “hammer-ons”, “pull-offs”, “finger taps” and “pick-harmonics”.
The details then turn to string types, emphasizing string gauges with respect to types of music concerned, and then proceed to string maintenance and settings. The importance of bridge selection is well detailed, as is integration of pick-ups.
Detailed hands-on modifications are shown with respect to tonal variations on single coil pick-ups, with a complete list of required materials. Concise schematic wiring diagrams are also provided.
